The sailing area on the Mediterranean Coast of Spain is a variable area. In the southern part you will find mostly moderate winds - serious eastern storm are quite rare (Levante). And this wind is recognizable some time beforehand: most of the times a low pressure area will have appeared between the Balearics and the northern coast of Africa, the cause for the storm. Classical signs are poor visibility, clouding over the mountains and heavy rain.
On the north of the spanish mediterranean coast lies Tramontana. This ridge of the Mistral is back side weather, after a low pressure area has manifested itself over the Gulf of Genua. It can be recognised by the cold and crystal clear air of a cold front, by rising pressure and long rolled clouds. This strongwind mostly appears in winter and spring. On the northern coast of Spain light winds are predominant.
