Excerpt from Greece:
The Marina Kalamaki is a perfect starting point for your sailing trip in the Saronic Gulf
or the Kyklade isles.
On the other hand it has to be stressed that Kalamaki will probably not be the highlight
of your sailing trip in greece. Dusty roads, the noisy eight lanes of the beach road, large
distances to toilets and the occasional airplane leaving from the the national airport will
not exactly help the holiday atmosphere arise that is otherwise so typical for Greece. And
the concrete architecture typical for the seventies, in which Athen's suburb Kalamaki has
been built, does not remind very much of the Greek temple photos that we otherwise are so
familiar with.
Nevertheless, or maybe because of this, there are quite a number of cheap and agreeable
bars and stores. A word of advice: Where there's people, there's pleasure.
Shopping facilities in Athens - Kalamaki (Greece)
In the marina there are bars offering breakfast. The restaurants in Kalamaki are accessible
by foot. A taxi trip to the old Town of Athens (Plaka) will take about 20 minutes. We also
recommend the promenade of Makrolimanos (Piräus) with numerable taverns that serve fish and
exclusive bars directly at the port. Close by the marina area (about 150 m) you will find a
supermarket, succeeded by a number of shops, a butcher, a baker, a beverage store and so on.
